Tips for Lovely Locks
Like every other ethnic woman, healthy hair is very important to me. After giving birth to my daughter, my hair texture changed. My hair became thin, dry, and brittle. I did not know what was going on with my hair. I remember a friend saying that she experienced some of the same issues: dry, brittle hair that led to hair loss after the birth of her daughter.
After many home-remedies, bad hair-days and hopeless styles I went to my doctor find out why I was having so many issues with breakage, dandruff and stagnant growth; is there anything I can do to have healthy hair again. Instead of issuing a Little Magic pill to make it all better, she stated, “Drink 8 glasses of water a day, eat protein packed foods and take a good multivitamin." As instructed, I proceeded to just that. I was drinking a gallon of water a day, taking every vitamin known to mankind. I went to GNC for prenatal vitamins and protein supplements. I noticed very little, if any difference in my hair texture, in fact my hair appeared to be getting worse.
After countless failed attempts to achieve better, more healthy hair I took matters into my own hands. I began a regimen that changed my life. Literally, 4 weeks after discovering a new way to treat weak and brittle ends, dry scout and tangles, my hairdresser saw a noticeable difference in the overall texture and length. She was thoroughly impressed and suggested I get my hair washed and deep conditioned every two weeks and trimmed once every 6 weeks to increase new growth and length quickly.
I read in People Magazine an article dealing with the importance of complete nourishment to enhance natural beauty and radiance... This was the day I became consciously aware of the role that food and nutrition plays in hair growth and overall health. I realized that I had stumbled across the long awaited missing link in hair growth and manageability, it was the magic pill that changed my life forever.
I came up with an easy to follow treatment plan that works like the little magic pill we all need during our naughty knots shenanigans...
Tip # 1
Wash your hair every one to two weeks; if your hair feels dirty between washes use a dry shampoo that day, but don’t wash your hair
Tip # 2
Condition your hair every one to two weeks; If you can find a leave in conditioner that is good to protect your hair in extreme heat and weather conditions
Tip # 3
After washing your hair, gently pat it dry with a towel instead of wringing it out, let it air drying.
Tip # 5
Use natural hair care products switch to products that are made with herbs, oils, and creams will aid in nourishing hair.
Tip # 6
Stay away from harsh dyes and other permanent treatments. The chemicals in dye, bleach, chemical straighteners, and chemical curlers can do a lot of damage if you use them too often
Tip # 7
Give your hair oil treatments. To restore your hair's softness and shine, apply oil to your roots, shaft and especially the ends a couple times a week.
Tip # 8
Very important... Eat protein packed food, rich in nutrients that nourish the follicle of the hair. A well-balanced diet with plenty of protein, vitamin B, iron, and omega-3s helps your hair stay as thick and healthy as possible.
Tip # 9
Get your hair trimmed every six weeks
Tip # 10
Place hair "up" in a bun and wear a satin based nightcap to bed each night.
